Many negatives are present in the modern society. These problems are very well illustrated by Steve Cutts and John Holcroft in their extremely creative artwork. Holcroft’s work is from the 1950s while Cutts’ illustrations are inspired by 1930s and 1940s. But, both of them explain their concerns supremely.
Viscous Net of Internet
Cutts want to say that internet scares people a lot especially the comment section of the social networking websites. They need validation for everything and any wrong comment will spread negativity.
The Slipping Sand
Holcroft has very well depicted that due to unfortunate use of natural resources the Mother Earth is slipping from our hand just like sand.
The Herd of Sheep
Just like a herd of Sheep blindly follows the leader so does people. People are enticed by plugging in the phone keeping their head down and walking.
The once lowly fruit is now the most expensive with the apple product taking over the market. Holcroft shows that the apple is taken over by batteries and other electrical circuits.
The Money Trap
Money is nothing but a big trap to die. Cutts wants to convey a simple message saying do not become greedy and fall for the money, you might end up losing your life.
This is a perfect illustration to show how one’s ego is satisfied by no. of likes on Facebook. They need validation from people on social media.
This is how the judicial system is depicted by illustrator; the freedom of child and its future depends on the freedom of mother from jail.
The importance of daily tweets is very well explained by Holcroft. It is as important as the patient getting an IV when ill.
The phone is eating up so much of our time and peace of mind that we cannot survive without it. It almost becomes our identity, or let us say it steals away our actual identity.
The barcode dress suggests that people are habitual to shopping which takes away their individuality and has become a product.
The trolls are eating away time and space. They are everywhere and it forces people to give nasty comments and hurt others feeling.
People don’t feel like taking a relaxed time out of their busy schedule instead they waste time after spending hours on Facebook which are just like sharks.
People are absolutely clueless about what is happening around them. They behave like zombies and this is all because of the phone.
What is happening to the world is very well depicted by Holcroft and Cutts, God save the modern society!
