International SOS and Control Risk is a private company which is the world’s largest medical and travel security services firm. They specialize in medical assistance, travel security advice, and info, emergency services, healthcare, evacuation, and repatriation services. They operate from over 1,000 locations in 90 countries and have around 5 millions assistance alls every year.
That organization has an interactive map which makes it easier for everyone to assess all the risks before traveling somewhere. They take several factors into account: infrastructure, climate, political stability, crime rate, etc.
This map is updated every year and this year, some of the most notable changes happened, particularly to countries in the Eastern Europe and the Caribbean.
If you want, you can find that map here. However, we have gathered some screenshots of that map, only to show you how it works. The map has a number of colors and shades of those colors to mark the level of danger in that region. It is broken down by medical, security and road risk safety levels.
The company made some research and according to that research over a half of people who visit their site changed their travel plans during 2017 due to some of the security risks. 43% of that people changed their mind because of natural disasters and 42% because of a country’s risk levels.
One of the regions that has a lower risk level when compared to the last year was Eastern Europe. Poland, Croatia, and Hungary improved their medical standards while countries in the Caribbean saw their medical risk increase dramatically because of recent natural disasters.
The rest of the data is pretty much the same as the last year.
So, if you are planning to make some travel plans, or you have already prepared for a flight, you may want to check this map and reconsider your plans.
