Job description: Land & Carbon Lab (LCL) is WRI’s premier hub for geospatial data, analysis, and monitoring of the world’s land and its natural ecosystems. At WRI Indonesia, the Land & Carbon Lab program falls under the Food, Land and Water (FLW) cluster, Forest and Peat Monitoring sub-cluster.Job HighlightThe Communications Specialist for Forest and Peat Monitoring will support FLW programs at WRI Indonesia, focusing on projects under Forest and Peat Monitoring sub-cluster by implementing communications strategies, managing multiple communications channels (such as website, blog, publications, media relations, and events), and engage with relevant stakeholders. The Communications Specialist will play a crucial role in the implementation of aspects of strategic, disciplined communications and engagement campaign to achieve the goals and objectives of the Forest and Monitoring sub-cluster as well as the Land & Carbon Lab program. The Communications Specialist will utilize media, marketing, technical and persuasive writing, among others, to develop, execute and manage social and traditional communications strategies that advance the goals of WRI Indonesia.Reporting to Senior Communications Coordinator for FLW, the position holder is expected to coordinate with Communications Manager, Forest and Peat Monitoring Senior Manager, related program leads, and work closely with Land & Carbon Lab Communications team in Washington D.C. and other parts of the globe. This position will be based in Jakarta with office-flex working arrangement and high travel requirements.What You Will Do
- Leading the implementation of communications strategies pertaining to the forest and peat monitoring sub-cluster. The implementation of communication strategies comprises of but is not limited to communications materials development, events management, media engagement, conferences, video development, politik opportunities, writing, and social media engagement.
- Responding to program team needs, identify strategic communications feedback to advance project’s impact with a close coordination with manager.
- Support in the development of narrative and messaging that WRI Indonesia delivers at the program and project levels
- Support in developing clear advocacy/campaign strategies for each thematic sector at all levels and ensure that advocacy plans throughout the program are compatible, consistent and effectively delivered.
- Develop and implement creative campaigns to increase awareness and improve stakeholders’ participation towards Land & Carbon Lab and WRI Indonesia’s Forest and Peat Monitoring initiatives.
- Develop ideas, write, and edit a variety of internal and external materials, such as blog posts, media materials, politikletters, op-eds, website content, and more.
- Support the collaborative efforts in maintaining WRI Indonesia’s website
- Provide communications support for events that fall under the Land & Carbon Lab and Forest and Peat Monitoring initiatives.
- Support the event documentation by taking photographs and videos and/or work with professional photographer or videographer as needed.
- Support media engagement opportunities including press releases, media briefings, and media enquiries.
- Monitor politik coverage.
- Properly maintain documentation for all communications activities.
- Engage with third-party vendors, consultant, and other relevant stakeholders including government officials, local NGOs, and the Global team as necessary.
- Travel if needed.
What You Will NeedRequired qualifications:
- Ideal candidate will have bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or other relevant fields;
- Professional experience of min. 3 years in communications;
- Experience in social media management and how to use it to impact audiences;
- Experience in working with reporters or members of the media (and established media contacts);
- Experience and proven ability to communicate effectively with Indonesian government officials;
- Articulate, versatile, highly skilled writer with professional writing experience (might provide professional clips or writing samples);
- Fluency in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, with a strong emphasis on written and spoken communications (additional language skills are welcome);
- Excellent inter-personal communication skills, including the ability to encourage collaboration with other programs, international offices, and partners;
- Ability to think creatively and collaboratively about all elements of communications work;
- Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced office environment, both independently and as part of a global team;
- Adaptable to rapidly changing priorities and managing multiple deadlines while maintaining to deliver high quality work products;
- Ability and willingness to travel when needed
- Legally able to work in Indonesia.
Preferred qualifications:
- International experience or prior work in a global organization
- Interest and experience in forestry, environment, or other natural resources-related issues in Indonesia
- Visual skills, such as photography, videography, graphic design, and Adobe Photoshop
- Experience in working with a content management system (CMS)
DeliverablesMonthly consolidated report on delivery, achievement and lessons learned. Other deliverables include but not limited to: * Project’s communications strategies development and implementation report
- Project’s activities implementation includes the evaluation and analysis report of each activity.
- Minutes of Meeting from the stakeholders’ engagements undertaken during the course of the project
- Communications materials development such as video (in coordination with third party), press release, blog, op-eds, website content, slide deck
- Final draft of social media content
